Libya vs Nigeria | NFF Files Necessary Evidence Against LFF With CAF

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has filled all necessary documents as requested by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), in respect of Super Eagles’ flight diversion by Libyan authority that led to the withdrawal of the Nigerian national team from their second leg Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against the Mediterranean Knights.

The controversy erupted when the Nigerian team’s flight, bound for Benghazi, was unexpectedly diverted to Al Abraq Airport with poor facility, and without immediate provisions for hotels, food and internet for over twenty hours.

As CAF’s investigation unfolds, the fate of the match remains uncertain. Potential consequences include a rescheduled fixture and disciplinary sanctions.

This situation prompted the Nigerian government to direct the NFF to withdraw the team from the match, citing concerns for the players’ safety in the tense atmosphere.

Even before Nigeria officially pulled out, the NFF lodged a formal complaint with the CAF, accusing the Libyan authorities of unacceptable treatment.

CAF responded by condemning the incident, labeling the treatment of the Nigerian delegation as “despicable.”

The NFF and the Libya Football Federation (LFF) were instructed to submit detailed event accounts by October 20.

While the NFF has met the October 20 deadline issued by CAF for necessary documents to be filled, the Libyan Football Federation (LFF) has engaged the service of a legal representation, distancing itself from the situation by claiming that the flight diversion was a decision made by Libyan state authorities, not the football federation.

2025 AFCON Qualifiers|Why Super Eagles Will Boycott 2nd Leg Match Against Libya – NFF Reveals

The Nigeria Football Federation has decided to pull the Super Eagles out of Tuesday’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Libya.

This follows a frustrating 12-hour ordeal at Al Abraq International Airport in Libya, where the team has been stranded since their arrival on Sunday afternoon.

The Nigerian delegation was en route to Benghazi for the crucial qualifier when their chartered aircraft was dangerously diverted mid-flight to Al Abraq, a small airport typically reserved for hajj operations.

The unexpected diversion left players and officials stranded without any assistance from the Libyan Football Federation, which failed to provide transportation.

In a statement on Monday, the NFF detailed the chaotic situation, explaining that the team remained at the airport for over 12 hours, unable to reach their hotel in Benghazi, which is three hours away.

“The Nigerian delegation for Tuesday’s 2025 AFCON qualifier against Libya is still at Al Abraq Airport, 12 hours after landing. The chartered ValueJet aircraft was, strangely and in a dangerous manner, diverted to the small airport just as the pilot was completing his approach to Benghazi Airport,” the NFF stated.

The NFF further noted that the fatigued and frustrated players have now resolved not to play the match.

The NFF, supporting the players’ decision, is currently arranging for the team to fly back to Nigeria, effectively pulling them out of the fixture.

“Players have resolved not to play the match any longer, and NFF officials are making plans to fly the team back home,” the statement concluded.

Reacting to the situation, Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong condemned the treatment by the Libyan authorities.

In a series of tweets early Monday morning, Troost-Ekong described the situation as “disgraceful,” accusing the hosts of playing “mind games.”

He revealed that the team is being kept in an abandoned airport with no access to food, drink, or phone connections.

“12+ hours in an abandoned airport in Libya after our plane was diverted whilst descending. The Libyan government rescinded our approved landing in Benghazi without reason. They’ve locked the airport gates and left us without a phone connection, food, or drink. All to play mind games.

“I’ve experienced issues before while playing away in Africa, but this is disgraceful behaviour,” he wrote.

Troost-Ekong also mentioned the difficulties faced by the Tunisian pilot, who managed the unexpected change in destination but was subsequently refused accommodation for his crew under government orders.

While the pilot could rest at the airport, Nigerian crew members were not allowed to stay, forcing them to sleep on the plane.

“Even the Tunisian pilot, who thankfully managed to navigate the last-minute change to an airport not fit for our plane to land, had never seen anything like this before,” he wrote.

“Upon arrival, he tried to find a nearby hotel to rest with his crew but was denied at every hotel, again under government instruction. He could sleep there, but no Nigerian crew members were allowed. They have now returned to sleep on the plane, which is parked up,” Troost-Ekong added.

I Don’t Believe In Islamic Or Christianity God But In Orisa Because It’s Artistic, Creative And Mysterious

Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka says he prefers traditional Orisa worshipping to Christianity and Islam because it more artistic, creative and mysterious.

Soyinka said this in an interview with CNN’s Larry Madowo, where he further explained that the depth of faith in Islam and Christianity doesn’t match that of Orisa worshipping for him.

According to him, Orisa worshipping eschews violence and is more creative.

“I was fortunate to be born in two worlds – the Christian world and traditional Orisa worshippers.

“My grandfather, until he – poor man – also got converted, was an Orisa person and a chief, and his (grandfather’s) side (of Orisa) fascinated me a lot more.

“For me, it (Orisa worshipping) was more artistic, creative, and also more mysterious. I don’t find much of the mysterious in Christianity and even less in Islam. And that is for a simple reason that I didn’t grow up in a Muslim environment.

“Orisa is open, and very ecumenical and that is why these foreign religions were able to penetrate it and even distort the truth. Because of the generosity of this spirit (Orisa), it is not violent. It is one of those African religions which eschew violence.

“I don’t believe in the Islamic or Christian God and, for the adherents of these religions, if that makes me an atheist, so I say, I am an atheist.

“I insisted that all human beings have a certain spiritual core in their being. I believe myself to be a more spirit-sensitive person,” Wole Soyinka said.

Israel Adesanya vs Alex Pereira | Kamaru Usman Heaps Praises On The ‘Last Stylebender’

Former UFC welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman, has heaped praise on Israel Adesanya’s knockout victory over Alex Pereira, describing it as “even more impressive” in light of Pereira’s recent dominant performance.

At UFC 307 last weekend, ‘Poatan’ unleashed an inhuman amount of punishment on Khalil Rountree Jr. en route to a dominant TKO win to defend his title.

This win, on top of three world title finishes this year, puts into perspective Pereira’s sole loss inside the octagon—a second-round KO courtesy of his rival, Israel Adesanya, last year.

Speaking on his podcast ‘Pound 4 Pound’, Usman reflected on Adesanya’s second-round KO of Pereira at UFC 287 last year, which saw the Nigerian-born fighter reclaim the middleweight title.

“I don’t want to take anything away from Alex Pereira and what he’s done, but this makes Israel Adesanya’s finish of Alex Pereira even more impressive,” Usman said. “To be able to stop a titan like that, it makes it even more impressive.”

The rivalry between Adesanya and Pereira has been one of the most compelling narratives in combat sports, spanning over seven years and two different disciplines.

Their history dates back to 2016 and 2017, when Pereira defeated Adesanya twice in Glory kickboxing matches.

The pair’s rivalry continued in the UFC, with Pereira knocking out Adesanya for the middleweight title in 2022. However, ‘The Last Stylebender’ exacted his revenge at UFC 287, reclaiming his belt with a spectacular knockout of his own.

Despite moving up to the light-heavyweight division and capturing UFC gold, Pereira remains firmly on Adesanya’s radar.

The Nigerian-born fighter recently provided live reactions to Pereira’s bout at UFC 307, expressing admiration for his former rival’s performance and saying, “He (Pereira) is that guy right now.

“Shout out to Khalil because, heart. Fighting with a broken nose, f**ked eye, and intelligence not to blow his nose even in the fight, respect.”

As both fighters continue to dominate their respective weight classes, the possibility of a future rematch between Adesanya and Pereira remains an exciting prospect for UFC fans worldwide.

Seven Tips Needed When Starting A Successful Business At 50+

10 Effective Ways To Support, Boost Visibility For Local Small Businesses | Implementation Tips And Examples In the rapidly evolving landscape of commerce

Start A Successful Business At 50+

It’s no secret that women over 50 are redefining what it means to be an entrepreneur. More than ever, Gen X women are leaving behind traditional jobs, trading in the corporate ladder for the excitement and control that comes with owning a business.

In fact, women in this age group are starting businesses at an unprecedented rate, bringing experience, confidence, and a fresh perspective to the entrepreneurial world. It’s time to harness your years of wisdom, skills, and drive to launch a business that’s not just successful but fulfilling.

Here’s how you can start strong and set yourself up for success:
1. Start With the Right Mindset
The entrepreneurial journey requires a specific mindset, especially if you’re starting a business later in life. It’s easy to feel intimidated by younger entrepreneurs who seem to have grown up in the fast-paced world of tech, but your age is your advantage. You’ve built resilience, adaptability, and problem-solving skills over decades.

What’s key at this stage is to adopt a growth mindset. This means seeing every challenge as an opportunity to learn, grow, and evolve. You’ve got experience and wisdom, but business landscapes shift fast. Be prepared to learn new things and embrace change.

2. Pick a Niche That Fits Your Expertise
The best way to set yourself up for success is by starting a business in a niche where you have experience, skills, or a deep interest. You likely have decades of professional experience and you must leverage that! Whether it’s consulting, coaching, or a product-based business, focus on a niche where your expertise gives you a competitive advantage.

At the same time, be mindful of market demand. Make sure your business idea solves a specific problem or serves a gap in the market. This blend of personal expertise and market demand is a winning formula for a thriving business.

3. Leverage Your Network
One of the greatest assets you have at 50+ is your network. After years of working in various industries, you’ve likely built relationships with colleagues, mentors, and peers. Use these connections to spread the word about your new business, gain valuable advice, and even secure your first clients.

Don’t hesitate to reach out and let people know what you’re working on. You never know who might be looking for exactly what you’re offering.

4. Start Small and Scale
You don’t need to have everything figured out from day one. Starting a business at 50+ can feel like a huge leap, but you can make the process less overwhelming by starting small. Consider launching as a side hustle while you’re still working or starting with a simplified version of your business that can grow as you gain traction.

By starting small, you can test your ideas, learn what works, and refine your business without too much financial risk. Then, as your confidence and client base grow, you can scale your business into something more substantial.

5. Focus on Profitability from the Start
A successful business isn’t just about passion; it’s also about making money. In your 50s and beyond, you likely don’t have as much time to “figure it out” as younger entrepreneurs, so your focus should be on profitability from the get-go.

This means being strategic about your pricing, costs, and business model. Make sure you understand your financial goals and how your business will meet them. For example, you can use value-based pricing to ensure you’re charging what you’re worth and focus on offering services or products that people are willing to pay for.

6. Embrace Technology
While technology might feel intimidating, it’s an essential part of running a modern business. From building an online presence to managing client relationships and marketing your services, digital tools are your best friend.

Thankfully, you don’t have to be a tech expert to get started. There are countless user-friendly platforms to help with everything from setting up a website to automating marketing and managing finances. Don’t let the fear of tech hold you back—there are simple solutions out there to help you manage your business effectively.

7. Don’t Fear Failure
Starting a business is a journey filled with ups and downs, and failure is part of that journey. Many successful entrepreneurs, regardless of age, will tell you that they learned their biggest lessons from their failures.

As a woman over 50, you’ve likely faced and overcome challenges in your personal and professional life, and starting a business will be no different. Keep going, and don’t let the fear of failure stop you from building something incredible.

The bottom line is that starting a business after 50 is not just possible; it’s a fantastic opportunity to create something that aligns with your values, skills, and experience. With the right mindset, a solid plan, and a focus on profitability, you can launch a business that not only thrives but also fulfills you.

Why 16-Year-Old Chido Obi-Martin Was Promoted To Manchester United’s 1st Team

Nigerian-born Danish forward, Chido Obi-Martin, has been promoted to Manchester United’s first team as their third-choice striker. This decision was made by the club’s coach, Erik ten Hag, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Obi-Martin, just 16 years old, will now play a more prominent role in Manchester United’s upcoming matches, sitting behind Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Højlund in the pecking order.

This promotion comes at a time when United’s strikers have struggled to find their rhythm, with Zirkzee managing only one Premier League goal in the first six games of the season. Obi-Martin’s addition is seen as a move to bring fresh energy and depth to the squad.

Chido Obi-Martin first gained widespread recognition in November 2023, when he scored an astounding 10 goals for Arsenal’s under-16s during a 14-3 victory over Liverpool’s youth team. Throughout the season, he continued to impress, scoring 32 goals in 24 appearances for Arsenal’s youth teams, while also training with their first team.

His goal-scoring ability and potential have not gone unnoticed by Manchester United’s management, leading to his swift elevation to the senior squad. Fans are eager to see how the young striker will perform in his new role at Old Trafford.

Hervé Renard – Super Eagles Job, Though Lucrative, But Not Suitable For Me

Hervé Renard, one of the applicants for Super Eagles coaching job, after Finidi George’s unexpected resignation, has stated that he could have become the Nigerian national team head coach because the offer was the most lucrative he’s gotten so far, but after much delibeartion, he believes the job isn’t a match for him.

Renard, who has enjoyed stints at Ivory Coast and Zambia, disclosed this while speaking with a French outlet L’Équipe, as reported by Brila FM.

In his words, “I almost went to Nigeria. I weighed the pros and cons for a few days, even weeks, before eventually turning it down. It was the best offer I’ve had so far, but it didn’t suit me in the end,”

Renard was heavily linked with the Super Eagles job before talks with German Bruno Labbadia fell through, leaving the Super Eagles in limbo.

Meanwhile, interim coach Augustine Eguavoen, who has been tasked with leading the team through the upcoming 2025 AFCON qualifiers against Libya, has hinted at the conditions that could see him take on the job full-time.

Eguavoen outlined that any consideration for a permanent role would require a long-term contract, along with patience and consistent backing from the football body.

“The Super Eagles job isn’t one you take lightly. If I were to take it permanently, I’d need to sit down, reflect, and think deeply because it’s not a small task.

“It’s going to be tough. I’d need a long-term contract, patience, and clauses in the deal because you don’t win every day. It takes time to build a team,” Eguavoen told Brila FM.

Eguavoen, who has had three previous stints as head coach, lamented that he was never given enough time to truly implement his vision for the team.

“In 2006, I was in charge for six months. Every other time, it was just two months or two to three games. Clemens Westerhof had five years. Gernot Rohr had six years. They got time, but I never had two straight years,” he noted.

He reiterated that to succeed as the substantive coach, he would need long-term assurances, contractual clauses, and a show of confidence from the NFF.

Tinubu Asks Nigerians To Be Patient Again, Says No More Freebies But Hardwork

Doctors, Healthcare Workers Retirement Age Increased To 65 - Dr Mannir Bature Confirms The Federal Government of Nigeria, A Season of Hope and Progress: President Tinubu’s Christmas Message to Nigerians In a heartfelt Christmas message to the natio - Listen To Nigeria's Old National Anthem Full Lyrics "Nigeria We Hail" As Tinubu Drops 'Arise O Compatriots' Some Nigerians have expressed outrage afte

President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerians to remain patient despite the high cost of living, stating that the country can no longer expect “a free bowl” without addressing its economic challenges.

The President made this remark during a visit from former Nigerian lawmakers at the State House in Abuja on Friday.

Tinubu acknowledged the hunger in the country but emphasized that there is no “free beer parlour,” using the metaphor to highlight that real development requires time and effort.

He further stressed the need for the government to stay focused on nation-building and restructuring the country’s financial system.

“Look at us. Agriculture that is the main thing. People say we are hungry.

“Yes, I understand that. But we cannot just take a free bowl. We must work hard. We’ve sustained twenty-five years of democracy this year, we don’t want to keep the people hungry and angry. But we say be patient.

“There is no free beer parlour anymore. We will retool and rebuild our nation through your cooperation,” Tinubu said.

The President Laments Infrastructural Decadence Over The Years

Speaking further, the President also bemoaned the fact that the country missed past opportunities to develop its infrastructure, education and other social amenities.

According to him, while Nigeria was experiencing a boom in economic growth, the leadership at that time failed to develop critical sectors in the country, leading to infrastructure deficit, dilapidated school facilities, among others.

Tinubu mentioned that this the major reason the country now struggles with its current economic challenges, leaving millions to battle with high cost of living as well as the crisis of out of school children.

“No one will do it better than us. Having travelled the world and see developed countries donate themselves to collaboration, inclusiveness and financial structure.

“Yes, there is hardship. But how did we get here? What did we do when we had very high production? We neglected our communities. We neglected the geese that lay the golden eggs. We forget to even give them common decent standard of living. We forget to educate our children.

“Go and look at the schools, they are all ramshackle.  Education environment must be decent enough for pupils to want to learn.

“We can continue to complain from now till eternity that the school enrollment is low. Did we even do anything to encourage that education progresses. We must ask ourselves. It’s a matter of conscience,” Tinubu added.

Facts Sheet About Nigerian Economy

“Embrace active and inclusive means of transport, such as cycling and walking, known as Non-Motorised Transport (NMT),” the statement urged.

Car-Free Day is celebrated globally every September 22, with some countries observing it on different dates by closing streets and encouraging car-free travel.

This year’s Lagos event is particularly timely as it coincides with the ongoing fuel price hike, which has already seen a reduction in the number of vehicles on the roads.

Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, emphasized the significance of NMT in promoting both environmental and personal health.

“Beyond reducing environmental pollution, it addresses the detrimental effects of insufficient physical activity on health,” Osiyemi noted.

The Lagos State Government, in
The World Health Organization (WHO) identifies physical inactivity as the fourth leading risk factor for global mortality, responsible for 6% of global deaths.

By promoting non-motorised transport, the initiative aims to tackle this issue, encouraging people of all ages and abilities to lead more active lifestyles.

In addition to encouraging sustainable transport, the event will serve as an educational platform to raise awareness about the benefits of environmental health and promote alternatives to private cars, including improved public transportation systems.

The Car-Free Day activities will be held at Ahmadu Bello Way, where hundreds of participants are expected to gather for a day filled with engaging events, including cycling, cycling training, competitions, skating, stretches, music, and dance.

The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation will partner with various Ministries, Departments, Agencies, and LUDI to ensure a successful celebration, spotlighting the environmental and health benefits of active transportation.

Monalisa Stephen – You Can Be Physically Abused Whether You Are Fat Or Not

Actress and content creator, Monalisa Stephen, has opened up about her experience in an abusive relationship.

In an interview with Saturday Beats, she stated that she did not initially recognise the abuse until she was physically assaulted.

She said, “I didn’t really know it was a thing. I used to hear other women talk about it, but I didn’t think it would happen to me. I used to believe, ‘I’m a huge woman with a big body, why would anyone want to beat me?’ But it has nothing to do with your body. You can be abused whether you’re fat or not. When I got the first slap, I was shocked. What led to the slap wasn’t even worth it. I was dazed. The experience was unexpected, and I felt really bad because this was someone I trusted. Even though he was below my league, I lowered my standards to date him.

“This person kept beating me and humiliating me. I asked him, ‘Why do you keep doing this to me?’ and he said his friend told him that people like me need to be ‘bent’ so he could dominate me. That made me see some men in a different light.”

She added that though many people think that public figures don’t have problems, reverse is the case.

She also stated that some people, including those who come to date them, see popular individuals as targets.

I Am A Chosen: The Viral Testimony Happens In The Woman’s Dream | Church Asserts

The viral video of a suspected member of The Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Revival Ministry in Lagos has sparked outrage after the woman celebrated receiving divine assistance during a Federal Government examination and how she shared her answers with another candidate.

During the testimony, the unnamed member claimed an old man appeared to her in the examination hall and gave her answers to some questions.

The woman said the exercise was one of the promotional examinations of the military (Army, Navy, and Air Force) and that there were about 50 questions, of which 40 bordered on career and 10 related to current affairs.

“We all had written our career questions. It then came to these very 10 questions, which asked, ‘Mention 10 Francophone countries and their capitals.’

“Brethren, nobody knew this question. So, all I did was to raise the question paper and declare to it: ‘I am a Chosen! I am a chosen!! I am a chosen!!! This question, who are you? Where is the God of my pastor power?’

“Then, suddenly, an old man appeared by my right-hand side in white apparel. He told me, ‘My daughter, begin to write.’ And I began to write,” she recounted.

She claimed that some of the invigilators, who suspected something was amiss, pulled off her apron, which made “the angel” disappear.

The action, she added, made her angry.

“But when they returned the apron and I wore it back, the old man appeared again and began to tell the rest of the answers. I completed 10 good questions. I wrote them correctly and accurately. To me, it was like a dream.

“Brethren, when I finished writing my questions, a sister who sat by my side was a Mountain of Fire member because of the logo on her clothing. As I took up the answer sheet and was cross-checking my write-up, I signaled to the woman, saying, ‘Sister, do anything you can do humanly possible.

“Any moment from now, I am going to submit my questions.’ While I was cross-checking, the sister quietly copied. And immediately she finished, brethren, I stood up and submitted my questions. Everybody in the hall was looking at me. That was how only two of us out of 102 were able to do this,” she added.

The church then erupted in celebration as she ended her testimony.

Reacting in an interview, the Head of Public Relations and Media for the church, Pastor Chidi Louis, said the testimony videos were doctored to tarnish the image of the church because some of the incidents happened in the testifiers’ dreams.

He said the church allowed members to share their testimonies the way they wanted without gagging them because it believed that such narrations should not be censored.

“There is no need for us to begin to doubt someone’s testimony. If anybody comes and says he wants to give a testimony, we give that person the opportunity; we don’t guide people on what to say or how to say it. They are free to say it as they like,” Louis stated, adding that the church was unperturbed by social media trolls.

In another testimony, a member of the church narrated how a lion miraculously saved him from kidnappers. In another video, another testifier recounted how bullets did not penetrate his head.

How To Start A Passive Income Business With Little To No Money

If you’ve ever dreamed of making money while you sleep, you’re not alone. The idea of passive income, where you earn money without constant effort, can sound too good to be true. But with the right strategies, it’s possible to start building passive income streams without breaking the bank.

Let’s explore how you can start a passive income business with little to no money upfront:
1. Create and Sell Digital Products

One of the easiest ways to start a passive income stream is by creating and selling digital products. Whether it’s an eBook, template, printables, or online courses, digital products allow you to package your expertise or creativity into a format that can be sold repeatedly.

Why It Works:
Once you create the product, it can be sold indefinitely with little additional effort. You don’t have to worry about inventory, shipping, or manufacturing costs.

How to Get Started:

Identify a niche that you have knowledge or experience in
Create a simple product using software like Canva
Market your product via social media, a blog, or an email list
2. Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate marketing is when you are promoting other people’s products and earning a commission for every sale made through your referral. It’s an ideal passive income strategy if you already have a platform, such as a blog, social media following, or email list, but it can also be done through niche websites.

Why It Works:
Affiliate marketing requires no upfront investment in products or services. You simply promote and earn a portion of the sales.

How to Get Started:

Choose a niche that you like
Sign up for affiliate programs like Amazon Associate or individual brand affiliate programs
Promote affiliate products through content like blogs, YouTube videos, or social media posts, and include your unique affiliate links

3. Start a YouTube Channel or Podcast
YouTube and podcasting are fantastic ways to generate passive income, especially through ad revenue and sponsorships. While building an audience takes time, once you create content, it has the potential to earn money for months or even years down the line.

Why It Works:
Content on these platforms can continue earning money long after it’s published. You can monetize through ads, sponsorships, and affiliate marketing links.

How to Get Started:

Choose a topic that interests you and resonates with an audience (for example business tips, lifestyle hacks, or industry trends)
Create regular content and build a following
Monetize through YouTube’s ad program or by securing sponsors for your podcast
4. License Your Expertise with Online Courses
If you have expertise in a specific area, whether it’s finance, entrepreneurship, marketing, or personal development, you can create an online course and sell it on platforms like Thinkific.

Why It Works:
Online courses are a high-value product that can generate ongoing revenue without requiring you to actively teach each time. Once the course is created, it can be sold for as long as you like.

How to Get Started:

Outline a course on a topic you know well
Film or record your lessons (this can be done on your phone or laptop)
Upload the course to an online platform and market it to your audience

5. Self-Publish a Book or eBook
If you enjoy writing, self-publishing an eBook or paperback through platforms like Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) can generate passive income. Once the book is written and published, it can be sold worldwide with minimal ongoing effort.

Why It Works:
The barriers to entry are low, and you can reach a global audience without needing a traditional publisher. Plus, every sale brings in royalties long after the initial writing is complete.

How to Get Started:

Write a book or eBook on a subject you’re interested in
Design a cover using tools like Canva
Publish the book on Amazon KDP or other self-publishing platforms
The bottom line is that the key to starting a passive income business with little or no money is to leverage what you already know and build on that. Whether it’s creating digital products, promoting affiliate links, or sharing your expertise through courses and content, there are countless ways to start earning passive income without a huge financial investment.

FIFA U20 WWC | Japan Get The Better Of Nigeria’s Falconets To Reach Quarter-Final

Nigeria’s Falconets have crashed out of the 2024 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup after a 2-1 loss to Japan in the second round.

A late goal from Olushola Shobowale could not cancel out Miyu Matsunaga and Maya Hijikata’s earlier strikes as Falconets fell short at the Estadio Metropolitano de Techo in Bogota, Colombia, in the early hours of Friday.

Against the Japanese, Nigeria failed to replicate the dominating performance in a 4-0 win over Venezuela in their final group game.

Rofiat Imuran came close to giving Falconets the lead early in the game, but Akane Okuma, the Japanese goalkeeper, saved her effort.

Shortly after, Matsunaga put Japan ahead with a deft finish before Hijikata cushioned the lead a few minutes into the second half.

Falconets never looked like they could muster an appropriate response, but Shobowale managed to pull one back for Nigeria during stoppage time.

The late strike was too little and too late, as Japan hung on for a win, setting up that epic quarter-final clash with Spain.

Bassirou Diomaye Faye Dissolves Parliament, Set New Legislative Election For November

Senegal’s President Bassirou Diomaye Faye on Thursday announced he had dissolved the opposition-dominated parliament and set new legislative elections for November 17.

“I have dissolved the National Assembly to ask the sovereign people for the institutional means that would allow me to give substance to the systemic transformation that I promised them,” Faye said on national television.

“Today, more than ever, the time has come to open a new phase in our term,” the 44-year-old head of state said.

Faye swept to a presidential victory in March 2024 on a promise of radical change for the West African nation.

Along with his Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, Faye ran on a ticket of sovereignty and leftist pan-Africanism, raising the hopes of young people in a country where three-quarters of the population is under 35.

But government action has so far been hampered by the lack of a majority in parliament.

According to Senegal’s constitution, Faye could dissolve the opposition-dominated parliament from September 12 and call early legislative elections, which could give him the majority needed to implement his policy agenda.

In his address, Faye said “the pledge of a frank collaboration with the parliamentary majority.. was an illusion”.

“It has decided to turn its back on the people to pursue its cult of obstruction, thereby blocking the project for which I was elected,” he said.

He cited, in particular, the management of public finances under his predecessor Macky Sall, alleging “wilfully hidden excesses” of spending.

He added that a report approved by Senegal’s court of auditors would soon be published.

I’m Still I Charge Of The Super Eagles – Eguavoen Debunks Rumour Of Quiting His Role As Interim Coach

Super Eagles interim coach Augustine Eguavoen has dismissed rumour making the rounds that he has quit his role, following Tuesday’s barren draw against the Amavubi of Rwanda in Kigali.

The rumour of Eguavoen’s resignation started making the rounds, following his post-match reaction in Kigali.

This was after Super Eagles 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) matchday two qualifying match against Rwanda, which ended 0-0 at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.

However, Eguavoen, who spoke to journalists after the team touched down in Abuja, debunked the rumour as false and misleading, saying that he was misquoted.

He affirmed that he was still in charge of the Super Eagles and would sit down with the federation’s hierarchy to evaluate the team’s performance, following the two matches played.

“It is quite unfortunate that people would just trigger something that is not correct, and at the situation that we are in now, we don’t need negative stories.

“I only talked about sitting down with the hierarchy of the federation after these two games to see how we go about prosecuting the next games.

“But, when I saw that story, I was kind of really worried and concerned. Whatever people are reading out there is not correct, and I am still very much in charge.

“I am the Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation, saddled with the responsibility of taking charge of the Super Eagles at this moment, and that’s where we are,” he said.

Joe Ajaero, The NLC Leader, Arrested By DSS At The NAI Airport, Abuja

Operatives of the Department of the State Service, DSS, have arrested the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Joe Ajaero.

It was gathered that he was arrested this morning at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

Ajaero was about to board a flight to the United Kingdom, UK, for an official assignment when DSS picked him up.

Although details of the arrest and the reasons are still sketchy, sources said he has been handed over to the National Intelligence Agency, NIA.

According to sources, Ajaero was billed to attend the conference of Trade Union Congress, TUC, in the UK holding today.

NLC threatens showdown
The NLC has confirmed that “security operatives abducted its President, Joe Ajaero, and forcefully whisked him away without a warrant”.

Following the arrest, the NLC alerted all its affiliates, state councils, and Nigerian workers, urging them to remain vigilant and on high alert.

The NLC, in a statement by its Head Media/Information, Benson Upah, described the arrest as “an unmistakable demonstration of the height of lawlessness being perpetuated by the Nigerian government and its agencies in their bid to silence every voice of dissent and opposition in the country as the economic policies of the government continue to afflict the people with monumental suffering and hardship.”

Ajaero has been on the radar of security agents recently.

A statement by the union later said the NLC president had been detained.

The statement read in part “We wish to categorically state that Comrade Ajaero has been detained without any legal warrant or formal instrument. Joe Ajaero is not a fugitive. His detention is therefore a brazen act of lawlessness and intimidation as he has not been declared wanted by any law enforcement body. His detention is a brazen act of intimidation and completely unjustified under the laws of our nation. The mere contemplation of not just stopping a lawful citizen from travelling but also sequestering his freedom is an affront to our democratic and natural rights as a people and as workers.”

His arrest and detention came about a week after he honoured an invitation by the police on August 28. He was released the following day after honouring the invitation.

7 Tips To Leveraging The Power Of Internet In Making Money

These days, starting an online business is one of the most accessible ways to create wealth. With minimal overhead, low barriers to entry, and a vast global audience, the opportunities are endless for those willing to embrace the world of e-commerce and online services.

However, it’s no secret that the online business world is saturated, with countless entrepreneurs competing for attention. However, saturation doesn’t mean there’s no opportunity, it just means you need to be more strategic to stand out.

By dialing in on what sets you apart and staying consistent in your efforts, you can rise above the competition and build a profitable online business even in a saturated market.

If you’ve been wondering how to make money by leveraging the power of the internet, here are some tips on how to do it:
1. Find a Profitable Niche
The key to building wealth online is to find a profitable niche where there is demand but not too much competition. A niche allows you to focus your marketing efforts, target a specific group of people, and establish yourself as an expert in that area. When choosing a niche, consider your passions, skills, and expertise. Think about what problems you can solve for your audience and what unique perspective you bring to the table.

2. Monetize Your Skills and Knowledge
Once you’ve found your niche, it’s time to monetize your skills. There are countless ways to generate income online, from offering coaching or consulting services to selling digital products or courses. The key is to focus on scalable business models—where your income is not limited by the number of hours you work.

3. Build a Strong Personal Brand
To stand out in the competitive online space, you need to build a personal brand. Your personal brand is what sets you apart from the rest and helps people connect with you on a personal level. People are more likely to buy from someone they trust, and building a personal brand allows you to build that trust.

4. Master Marketing and Sales
If you want to make money with an online business, you need to master marketing and sales. It’s not enough to have a great product or service; you need to know how to sell it effectively. Many people mistake a lack of sales for a lack of demand, but the real issue is often that they haven’t nailed their marketing strategy.

Identify your target audience and understand the pain they are experiencing from the problem that they have. Create marketing campaigns that speak directly to their needs and show them how your product or service can solve their problems. Use a combination of organic strategies (like blogging and social media) and paid advertising to drive traffic to your website.

Don’t forget about sales funnels. A well-designed sales funnel can automate your business, taking potential customers from initial interest to purchase with minimal effort on your part. This is where email marketing, webinars, and lead magnets come into play. Build a system that nurtures your leads and turns them into paying customers.

5. Create Multiple Revenue Streams
Wealthy entrepreneurs know that relying on one source of income is risky. That’s why you should aim to create multiple revenue streams within your online business. This can be done by diversifying your product offerings, selling affiliate products, or even adding passive income streams like ad revenue or sponsored content.

6. Reinvest Your Profits
Once you’ve established a profitable online business, don’t make the mistake of spending all your profits. Instead, reinvest a portion of your earnings into growing your business. This could mean upgrading your website, investing in advertising, or expanding your team.

Reinvestment also extends to personal development. Take courses, attend conferences, and work with mentors to continuously improve your skills and knowledge. The more you invest in yourself and your business, the faster you’ll grow and the more wealth you’ll build over time.

7. Stay Consistent and Resilient
Building an online business that creates wealth takes time. There will be challenges along the way but the key is to stay consistent and resilient. Every successful entrepreneur has faced setbacks, but what sets them apart is their ability to keep going.

The internet offers infinite possibilities for those willing to put in the work, adapt to changing trends, and continuously improve their strategies. Consistency in your efforts and resilience in the face of adversity will ultimately lead to success.

The bottom line is that getting rich with an online business is not an overnight process, but it is entirely achievable with the right approach. By following these tips, you can build a thriving online business that generates significant wealth. With persistence, strategic thinking, and continuous reinvestment, your online business can become a powerful vehicle for financial freedom and success.

Nigeria vs Benin|AFCON 2025 Qualifiers | Super Eagles Sink Benin In Uyo – Watch Players’ Rating

The Super Eagles claimed a 3-0 win over Benin in their opening game of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on Saturday.

Nigeria, who had the advantage were favourites to win the game, but there were doubts about their quality due to their struggles in recent months.

Nonetheless, goals from Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen sealed the win for the three-time African champions.

CitySports assess the performance of the Super Eagles stars that were on duty on the night.

Stanley Nwabali 8/10: The Chippa United goalie had a great game. He looked very solid in the goalposts. He had an awkward moment early in the game after a poor first touch following a back pass, but he recovered. He also made some great saves in both halves. One was from point-blank range after a shot from Steve Mounie in the box.

William Troost-Ekong 7.3/10: The Super Eagles captain was quite solid in Nigeria’s defence. He had a calming effect in the game and led the team well. There was a moment when his loss of communication nearly cost the team, but that was the only dent.

Semi Ajayi 7.6/10: He also had a good game for the Super Eagles. His marking was good, and he was quite composed. Ajayi also made some brilliant long passes that opened up the play for Nigeria.

Calvin Bassey 7/10: Bassey had a very good game. He did not have much to do though. He got yellow-carded for a handball after some pressure from Mounie, but it was a good showing overall.

Ola Aina 7.1/10: The Nottingham Forest star had a very good showing. He struggled in the final third during the first half, but he later picked up the pace. He was never dribbled past.

Bruno Onyemaechi 7.1/10: He had a solid game for Nigeria at left fullback. He could have done better in the final third though, but he did his primary job of defending very well.

Alex Iwobi 6.9/10: Iwobi had a good game. He did not create much from the middle of the park, but his passes and touches were good. He also had a good partnership with Ndidi.

Wilfred Ndidi 7.1/10: Ndidi had a solid showing in the middle of the park. He hardly put a foot wrong as his passes were on point. His decision-making in the final third could have been better, but it was a good showing overall. And of course he bagged an assist.

Ademola Lookman 9/10: It was yet another super performance from the Atalanta man. He was the livewire in Nigeria’s attack and provided a constant threat for the Super Eagles. He scored two goals to see Nigeria through, but it could have been three as he got one-on-one with the Beninois goalkeeper once but failed to convert.

Samuel Chukwueze 6.9/10: The AC Milan star had a good showing for the Super Eagles. He was very lively in the first half and tried to create chances for Nigeria, but those did not amount to much. In the second half, he did not see a lot of the ball, but it was a decent showing overall.

Victor Boniface 6.9/10: The Bayer Leverkusen man had a decent game, but he could have done better. He had two chances he could have scored from, but he failed to convert both. Although, his switching of positions with Lookman was great, that made Nigeria lack a strikers presence in the box at times.

FCCPC Issues A Month Ultimatum To Traders To Crash Prices Of Goods & Services

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has issued a one-month notice to traders and other market stakeholders involved in exploitative pricing to crash the prices of goods.

The move is to address the growing trend of unreasonable pricing of consumer goods and services and unwholesome practices of market associations.

Thursday statement by the commission, said the Executive Vice-Chairman of the FCCPC, Tunji Bello, gave the order at a one-day stakeholders’ engagement on exploitative pricing in Abuja.

According to Bello, the commission will begin enforcement after the expiration of the notice.

He said the meeting was to address the growing trend of unreasonable pricing of consumer goods and services and unwholesome practices of market associations.

Bello said: “The issue of critical national importance of the day is the growing trend of unreasonable pricing of consumer goods and services across the country, and the unwholesome practice of market associations engaged in price fixing.

As a responsive organization, we have carried out discreet market surveys extensively across the country in the past few weeks. Our findings are quite disturbing, to put it mildly. Therefore, our gathering here today (yesterday) is to underscore the gravity of the situation and the urgency of the need to work together to check this unwholesome development.

“As a statutory body whose mandate is to cater to consumer rights, we cannot allow this unhealthy trend to continue. To be sure, we quite recognize that an unfavourable exchange rate has negatively impacted the cost of production in local currency. However, the margin in pricing goods and services is unreasonable or excessive in a few cases.

‘’We have observed, for instance, that the margin in the prices of imported goods are very disproportionate in many cases; and in the case of locally produced goods, excessively inflated. This is an untenable situation, particularly in the retail segment, where we have identified patterns of price fixing perpetrated by some market associations, price gouging, and other anti-consumer practices.

This is as the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) recently pegged the inflation rate at 33.40 per cent, with the food inflation at over 40 per cent.

The high inflation rate has worsened since President Bola Tinubu on May 29, 2023, pronounced an end to fuel subsidies.

Explaining further, FCCPC also said it would not fail to invoke the full weight of the law on defaulters.

He said, “In view of the current situation in Nigeria, let me however be very unequivocal. Price gouging and price fixing are not only unethical, but patently illegal under the FCCPA.

“As such, the FCCPC has the will and the capacity to invoke the full weight of the law against those found culpable of exploiting consumers.

“However, our approach today is not punitive or adversarial… dialogue and collaboration are equally important tools in fostering a fair marketplace.”

Nigeria’s Female Basketball Team, D’Tigress, Break Into FIBA World Top Ten

D’Tigress Make History As First African Team To Break Into FIBA Top 10
The historical rise of the team in the world ranking could be linked to its dazzling performance at the Paris Olympics.

Nigeria’s female basketball team D’Tigress have been placed eighth in the world in the latest FIBA rankings.

In the list released on Thursday by the world basketball governing body, the six-time AfroBasket champions jumped four spots to become one of the top 10 teams globally.

With its eight position in the latest ranking, the D’Tigress become the first African team — men or women — to break into the top 10 of the FIBA world rankings.

The historical rise of the team in the world ranking could be linked to its dazzling performance at the Paris Olympics.

D’Tigress defeated both Australia and Canada in the group stage to become first African team to compete in the Quarter-Finals at the Olympics.

However, the team’s good run at the Olympics was eventually stopped by the USA in the Quarter-Finals.

The D’Tigress’ brilliant performance earned head coach, Rena Wakama the best coach of the women’s basketball event.

The US, the Olympic champions, retain the top spot in the global ranking, followed by Australia and France.

China and Spain complete the line-up for the best five teams in women’s basketball.

Month-on-month, the index was 2.46 per cent in July, almost from the preceding month. On the other hand, rural inflation stood at 31.26 per cent, year-on-year, compared to the 22.49 per cent in July 2023.Month-on-month, rural inflation dropped to 2.10 per cent, compared to 2.17 per cent in June.At state level, general inflation year-on-year was highest in Bauchi (46.04 per cent), followed by Jigawa (40.77 per cent), and Kebbi (37.47 per cent), while Benue (27.28 per cent), Delta (28.06 per cent) and Borno (28.33 per cent) recorded the slowest rise. Paris Olympics| Yemisi Ogunleye Clinches Gold For Germany In Women’s Shot Put

In a thrilling finale at the Stade de France on Friday, 9 August, Germany’s Yemisi Ogunleye clinched the women’s shot put gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Her impressive throw of 20.00m secured a historic victory, marking Germany’s first win in the event since Astrid Kumbernuss in 1996.

Ogunleye’s triumph was met with jubilation as she proudly draped the German flag around her shoulders and rang the victory bell.

Born to a Nigerian father and German mother, Ogunleye’s remarkable performance came as a surprise to many.

New Zealand’s Maddison-Lee Wesche took silver with a throw of 19.86m, while China’s Song Jiayuan claimed bronze with a distance of 19.32m.

Wesche had initially seemed poised for victory, unleashing a personal best on her fifth attempt, but Ogunleye rose to the challenge with a perfect response.

Notably, Nigeria was not represented in the women’s shot put event, where Ogunleye secured gold.

However, the country had representation in other throwing events, including the men’s shot put, where Chukwuebuka Enekwechi finished sixth.

Randy Waldrum – Super Falcons Players Are Extremely Talented And Can Compete With Top Teams

Despite seeing his team fail to make it out of the group stage of the Olympic women’s football tournament, Nigeria coach Randy Waldrum believes the Super Falcons are not far from the world’s top teams.

The American coach also expressed his hope that he would be allowed to carry on and refresh the team with younger players going forward.

In their fourth Olympic appearance, and first in 16 years, the Super Falcons failed to win a single game, going down 1-0 to Brazil and Spain before seeing their hopes of progress extinguished 3-1 by Japan. In a bizarre coincidence, the results were the exact same as they posted at their most recent appearance, in 2008.

But Waldrum insists that the team not only has the talent, with a balanced mix of experienced core and young players, but have also made enough progress to match up against any of the world’s top sides.

“Our players are extremely talented,” he told Citysports. “That’s always been the history of Nigeria, it has extremely talented players. And I think this one could be a special group. We’ve shown our quality against some of the best teams in the world.”

Blessed with the experience of players like Asisat Oshoala, Rasheedat Ajibade, Osinachi Ohale, Uchenna Kanu, along with promising youngsters like Deborah Abiodun, Tosin’s Demehin, Rofiat Imuran and Nicole Payne, Waldrum believes there is a bright future for the team.

He added: “I’m excited about the young players but I really do like the core of our team. I guess the one thing I said after the World Cup, and I would continue to say it now publicly, is if we will invest in this team, as a federation and a country, this team would have a chance to be one of the best in the world.”

To get to that position, Waldrum, who also time-shares as coach of the University of Pittsburgh women’s soccer team, would like to see the kind of organization that teams in the US enjoy that optimize their potentials, but says so far, he has not quite succeeded.

Waldrum continued: “One of the things I really hoped I could do when I came to Nigeria as a coach, is to bring some experiences of the way we do things in the US, with our organization, and with our preparation, but for whatever reason we still battle some of the same issues.”

A lot of those organizational issues include staggered travel arrangements that leaves players arriving in batches for training camp, visa troubles, lack of an advanced schedule and payment issues. Waldrum says to make the Super Falcons one of the top teams in the world, changes will be necessary.

This is similar to the kind of talk that got the American in a bit of hot water with the Nigeria Football Federation prior to the 2023 World Cup. But with fences mended, the coach was keen to make it clear that he was not taking shots at the NFF, only trying to point out how things could be better.

He said: “I don’t want to revive that. But I would say this, and I don’t mean it in a bad way towards the Federation: I do think that we can do with changes in some of this.”

He continued: “It may come down to finances and that part I’m not involved with because I don’t know the financial situation of the NFF, and how it works with the government. I can tell you from a coaching perspective, I’ll give you a good example.

“When we played Cameroon in the Olympic qualifiers, we had a 10-day FIFA international window. But we ended up traveling most of the window. Some of the players were even a couple of days late. We had to come to Nigeria first.

“So we fly from Europe, the US wherever our players are playing and we fly into Nigeria, then we have to turn around a day and a half later, and fly to Cameroon because we’re playing a game like three days or four days into the window.

“Well, what happens to players? When you fly in, and you’re traveling 15 hours of travel, your body needs time to recover. We got into Nigeria, had to have some time to recover on that first day and a half, then we had time for one practice, which was still when we were in recovery mode.

Paris Olympics| Women’s Soccer Semi-final| USWNT vs Germany, Spain vs Brazil – Preview

Can Spain make history with first Olympic-World Cup double?

For 28 years, or eight cycles, women’s football has had a place at the Summer Olympics. Yet from the inaugural event at the 1996 Atlanta Games and through all seven editions, the World Cup holders from the previous year have yet to complete the double and collect a gold medal.

Even the great Germany team — who were the first to win back-to-back World Cups in 2003 and 2007 — could only claim bronze in 2004 and 2008. While the great United States teams crowned world champions in 2015 and 2019 fared far worse, as they were eliminated in the quarterfinals and semifinals respectively.

Italy’s men won gold in 1936, in between their first two World Cup wins, but why has a women’s team never managed to claim that elusive Olympic gold the following year?

We might get more of an answer on Saturday. This tournament has brought a new World Cup champion and Olympic debutant at the same time: Spain. And only a semifinal against Brazil, and final against either the USWNT or Germany now stands in their way.

Ahead of Paris 2024, there was plenty of optimism that Spain could be the ones to make history, yet they also had to deal with a lot of upheaval — they changed their coach, with Montserrat Tomé replacing the controversial Jorge Vilda — and off the pitch the feud with their federation following the fallout of the Luis Rubiales-Jenni Hermoso scandal has rumbled on.

Three wins from three in the group stage have not told the whole story. La Roja have been underwhelming and have so far failed to get out of second gear. Indeed, they nearly got knocked out at the quarterfinal stage, needing a 97th-minute goal from defender Irene Paredes to force extra time against Colombia before winning 4-2 on penalties.

To make history, Spain need to overcome it. Only Japan and the USWNT have come close to doing the double before.

When the U.S.’s famed 1999ers ran the Olympic gauntlet in Sydney, they only lost the final 3-2 to Norway in extra time after a sudden-death goal from Dagny Mellgren.

Then, after Japan’s fairytale success at the 2011 World Cup in the wake of disaster at home following the Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami, the U.S. team avenged their penalty-shootout loss in that final by beating the Nadeshiko 2-1 at London’s Wembley Stadium to take gold at the 2012 Games.

“I think [at the World Cup] we had a big purpose, a desire to win the tournament because the bad things happened in Japan,” former Japan midfielder Yuki Nagasato told ESPN. “It was bigger than us. Like the U.S. in 2019, when they were fighting equal pay; so that kind of desire to win above the win. That’s the purpose we had.”

In 2016, all eyes were on the USWNT again. With gold medals won at the Athens (2004), Beijing (2008) and London (2012) Games, the expectation was on them to win in Rio de Janeiro. Yet a team that had so emphatically won the 2015 World Cup went out in the quarterfinals on penalties to Sweden — the only reigning world champions to have failed to make it to a medal match.

Arguably the main reason why no team has followed up their World Cup success with gold is that the Olympic football tournament is an endurance test; a gauntlet to be run. Only 12 nations qualify, meaning the standard is incredibly high [unlike the men, who put out U23 teams, the women’s event is far more prestigious], and countries have to use smaller squads of 18, rather than 23. There are also only two rest days between each game (save for an extra day before the gold-medal match), barely allowing for any recovery as they play three group games in nine days.

“It’s just really hard to win this kind of tournament,” Nagasato added. “It’s multiple things [needed] to win: it’s timing, it’s peaking, it’s [avoiding] injuries … you need to get every single piece together to win.”

Rhian Wilkinson, who was part of Canada’s bronze medal-winning teams in 2012 and 2016, and is now manager of Wales, told ESPN there are a lot of variables to finding success.

“I would say it [the Olympics] is a very different tournament,” she said, “The World Cup is the most accurate decider of who the best team in the world, and you’ve got a bigger roster, you have rest between the games. You’ve got the preparation piece down to a tee and then you have to deliver consistently. The Olympics is so quick and such a tight roster that there is a little bit more luck involved. It could be the weather that you get, it could be the travel distance, there’s so many variables.

“And then there’s how healthy you can keep your team … how healthy they [other players] are coming in. At the World Cup, you can carry players that might play a little later in the tournament if you’re one of those top teams. It’s a dangerous thing to bring anyone with any kind of knock to the Olympics because you are playing non-stop, and you have to be able to do some rotation, because it’s impossible [the schedule].”

Spain arguably have one of the best squads in the world, with quality players all over the pitch, but they first need to overcome Brazil in the semifinals on Tuesday to keep the double dream alive. They managed their group-stage clash with the South Americans well enough, winning 2-0, and will be feeling confident. But they can leak goals — a trend seen in the UEFA Nations League too — and that could tell if they come up against USWNT, who are looking good under new boss Emma Hayes, in the final.

The U.S. are seemingly at their most dangerous in Olympic tournaments following a disappointing World Cup; of their four gold medals, they failed to make the World Cup final the year before on three occasions. Their 2023 World Cup campaign was the most disappointing of the lot, exiting in the round of 16 to Sweden.

So Spain will certainly be wary of a U.S. side looking to get back on track. But if they are to make history, they’ll need the right balance of talent, endurance and luck to do so.

THE FINAL FOUR
Following a highly competitive group-stage, the quarterfinals of the 2024 Olympic Women’s Soccer Tournament did not disappoint, with all four matches being determined by the thinnest of margins. Both the USA and Brazil advanced on dramatic, late goals, while it took penalty kicks for Germany and Spain to reach the semifinals.

The USA and Germany will open the semifinal round on August 6 at 12 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. local, while Brazil and reigning FIFA Women’s World Cup champion Spain will square off at 3 p.m. ET / 9 p.m. local in Marseille.

Of the four teams still standing, the USA, Germany and Brazil have all previously reached the podium. The U.S. has the most Olympic gold and most total medals in the history of the competition, winning four golds, one silver and one bronze. Germany, the 2016 gold medalists, has also won three bronze medals while Brazil has two silver medals. Spain earned its first world championship at last summer’s Women’s World Cup and is making its Olympic debut at Paris 2024.

FORMER CHAMPIONS FACE OFF AGAIN
Tuesday’s match at the Stade de Lyon will be seventh meeting between the U.S. and Germany at the World Cup or Olympics, with four of those match-ups coming in the semifinals. The teams famously met in the semifinals of the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup, which the USA won 2-0 on the way to its third World Cup title. Prior to last week’s group stage showdown, the only previous Olympic meeting between the teams came in the semifinals of Athens 2004, which the U.S. won 2-1 in extra time, getting a game-winning goal from 19-year-old Heather O’Reilly in the 99th minute.

Overall, the U.S. leads the head-to-head series 5W-1L-0D at world championship events. Germany’s only win over the U.S. at a world championship came in the semifinals of the 2003 Women’s World Cup, a 3-0 victory in Portland, Ore. on Germany’s path to its first Women’s World Cup title. The teams also met in the quarterfinals of the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup, a 3-2 victory for the USA, and the 1991 World Cup semifinals, a 5-2 victory for the Americas in China. In each of the five previous knockout-round meetings between the USA and Germany, the team that won the match went on to win the entire tournament.

Paris 2024 | Nigeria’s Ogazi Breaks 24-Year Olympics Record, Nathaniel Breaks Men’s 400m Hurdles 12-Year Record

Ezekiel Nathaniel has broken a 12-year record at the ongoing Olympic Games in Paris, qualifying for the semifinals of the men’s 400m hurdles event, while Samuel Ogazi shattered a 24-year record by advancing to the semifinals in the men’s 400m.

Diana-Mary Nsan, a media aide of the Minister of Sports Development, John Enoh, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.

Ezekiel became the first Nigerian athlete in 12 years to reach the semifinals of the 400m hurdles at the Olympics.

He secured his spot by finishing 2nd in heat 4 with a time of 48.32 seconds, earning an automatic qualification.

The last Nigerian to reach this stage in the event was Amaechi Morton at the London 2012 Olympics.

In the men’s 400m event, Ogazi ran a new personal best of 44.50 seconds, finishing 2nd behind USA’s Quincy Hall, who won the race in 44.28 seconds.

Ogazi’s impressive performance marked the first time in 24 years that a Nigerian male quarter-miler qualified for the 400m semifinals at the Olympics.

Paris 2924 Men’s Soccer Semi-final|Egypt, Morocco Outclassed By France And Spain Respectfully

Substitute Juanlu Sanchez struck a late winner as Spain came from behind to beat Morocco 2-1 on Monday and reach the final of the Olympics men’s football.

Morocco had led in the semi-final through a Soufiane Rahimi penalty towards the end of the first half at the Stade Velodrome in Marseille.

However, Barcelona’s Fermin Lopez equalised midway through the second period and then set up Sevilla right-back Sanchez to fire in the winner.

It is Spain’s second consecutive appearance in the final of the Olympic men’s football. They had to settle for silver three years ago in Tokyo after losing in extra time to Brazil.

Spain, who are chasing a second gold after triumphing in Barcelona in 1992, go to Paris for the final on Friday against either hosts France or Egypt, who play their last-four tie later.

Morocco can still claim a first medal by winning the bronze medal match, which will take place on Thursday in Nantes.

Last year’s Under-23 Africa Cup of Nations winners had impressed on their run to the semi-finals and looked on course to shock Spain when they went ahead in the 37th minute thanks to the prolific Rahimi.

Morocco were awarded a penalty following a VAR check for a foul by Pablo Barrios on Amir Richardson in the box, and Rahimi stepped up to send the goalkeeper the wrong way from the spot.

It was a sixth goal of the Olympics for the tournament’s leading scorer, with four of his strikes coming from the penalty spot.

That sent the large Moroccan support wild but Spain kept their cool to equalise through their own star man in the 66th minute.

Lopez, a member of Spain’s triumphant Euro 2024 squad who scored twice in the Olympic quarter-final against Japan, pounced to snatch possession when the ball broke loose in the box and fired low into the net to make it 1-1.

With the prospect of extra time looming, Spain won it in the 85th minute as Lopez found Sanchez bounding into the area, and he sent a shot low into the far corner.
